What is sedation dentistry?
Dr. Brumbaugh and our dental team understand that many of our patients are scared or apprehensive when it comes to visiting the dentist. To help your child feel comfortable at our office, we offer sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry encompasses several types of sedatives and anesthesia we use to ensure your family member feels comfortable, relaxed, and free of pain throughout the entire treatment process. We believe that helping your child have a positive experience is important to fostering overall oral health for a lifetime.
What is nitrous oxide?
While we offer many forms of sedation dentistry, our favored sedation technique is the use of nitrous oxide. Often referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is mixed with a higher percentage of oxygen and inhaled through the mouth and nose. It produces feelings of calm and relaxation, and often causes our patients to laugh. Some patients have a hard time remembering the treatment process itself. Using nitrous oxide is considered safe, and we will work closely with you as a parent to answer any questions you may have about sedation dentistry or nitrous oxide.
